  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smart Seafood Choices
Many states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?

I have learned that eating smaller wild caught fish, like skipjack tuna, is better for you. I buy wild caught fish and shell fish the majority of the time, with the exception of occasionally buying farmed salmon from Norway. I was dismayed to learn that mahi mahi is a moderate mercury-containing fish, as it's a family favorite.

Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

We have a stream running through our backyard down a hill that could be negatively affected by salt and sand runoff during winters on the roads at the condos abutting our property near the stream.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
What is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?

The main water source in our area is several reservoirs. I am fortunate to have a deep well for my family's water source, which has been tested recently. When we have lost power for an extended period of time, we've used large buckets to collect water to flush our toilets.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

People are taking charge and have great pride in growing and sharing their food with their families and communities. Citizens in America and abroad are raising awareness and taking control of their food sources and demanding to be heard and respected by corporate producers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I used to buy water bottles at stores but now bring my own reusable water bottle if going to the store or out hiking. I ask for no straw when getting take out drinks.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

I plan on saving money to build a better fence around our garden or put in permeable pavers under our deck.
