REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Perri Druen 4/02/2020 9:53 AMIt is true that it would take a lot to convert how we grow food in this world, but if we decide to do it, we will find a way (or many ways--including using yards for food production). Cuba is a good example--after they were shut off from the world, they began growing their own food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Perri Druen 4/02/2020 9:51 AMMeat can be seen as a status marker, so that when individual and countries have more income, they buy more meat--to the detriment of their health and the environment. Animal agriculture is one of the biggest polluters and contributors to greenhouse gas emissions (cow farts = methane). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?
Perri Druen 4/02/2020 9:42 AMI benefit by motivating myself to eat whole foods by considering both the health and the environmental consequences. I am already feeling better when I wake in the morning.
