REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Gerardina Martin 4/15/2020 8:18 PMWe can hold town meetings to talk about water conservation, as well as how to prevent pollution of waterways. It seems to be doing really well, as streams are clear. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Gerardina Martin 4/15/2020 8:16 PMI'm sure we have all of this in our area, but they come at unexpected times. I'm lucky to live in a neighborhood where many folks collect their water to use on plants, and water conservation is discussed in town meetings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Gerardina Martin 4/15/2020 8:14 PMI generally pick vegetables, like cucumbers, for which I use every part. For broccoli, I cut up the stalks, as well, and cook them into breakfast with eggs or into dinner with the stir-fry. Stir-fry is a great way to use all the parts of the vegetable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Gerardina Martin 4/15/2020 8:12 PMThis does not surprise me. I am very frugal, so $1500 a year would go a long way for my family. However, we typically plan our meals, and with five kids, there are never any leftovers. Additionally, I use all food purchased, and we do not throw anything away.
