Sierra's actions
Waste
Lobby For Reusables
I will lobby my dining hall to have reusable dishes and silverware in order to minimize disposables.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace, dorm, or elsewhere on campus.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will learn about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Sierra Snigier 4/10/2020 3:54 PMThe misinformation surrounding these topics. When we can teach others they can see their impacts and will be more aware. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?
Sierra Snigier 4/10/2020 3:52 PMI think that's a good perspective to take in monitoring what you eat as it can prevent health diseases later in life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Sierra Snigier 4/10/2020 3:47 PMI think as a society, including myself we think short-term and not long-term. This challenge made me see just how many things I use on a daily basis that are not sustainable. In the future I plan to try and implement things that are reusable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Sierra Snigier 4/08/2020 12:29 PMI learned that supporting places that swap and sell/buy gently used clothes is more sustainable. Also, I saw videos on how to take old pants and make bags and different uses.
